IT was a great weekend for Leek Rugby Club with all three senior teams winning - and the club's annual beer festival at which to celebrate.
Leek 1st XV led the way with a convinicing 40-12 victory over Yorkshire side Dronfield in the opening round of the RFU Knock-out Cup.
The 3rd XV also enjoyed a points bonanza in winning 38-24 away to Handsworth 3rds in a hurriedly rearranged fixture.
The club is staging a Ladies Day this Saturday when the 1st XV are at home to Tamworth in Midlands Two West (North).
This Sunday the club entertain Staffs University Freshers. Any players wanting to play should meet at InterChem Park at 2pm.
Leek 1sts 40 Dronfield 1sts 12 THE RFU Cup competition is open to all Level 7 clubs, of which there are 48 in the Midlands.
Leek’s previous attempts at progressing past round one have ended in failure, so there was plenty to celebrate afterwards.
It was a good performance by the Moorlanders, particularly in the first half when they ran up a 28-0 lead after dominating possession and territory.
