EIGHT men have been arrested in a nationwide crackdown on people accessing indecent images of children online.

The men from the Staffordshire Moorlands, Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle were among 19 suspects questioned across the county and 660 in Britain as part of a six-month covert operation co-ordinated by the National Crime Agency.

The men have all been bailed pending further inquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Giles, of Staffordshire Police's child exploitation team, said: "This operation should be a warning to offenders – the internet is not a safe anonymous space for assessing indecent images; you will leave a digital footprint and we will find it and you."
