DWAYNE Spence netted his ninth goal of the season for the Old Boys as they bounced back from their six-goal drubbing by Atherton LR.

Spence hit the Old Boys match-winner in the 42nd minute, adding to his hat-trick against Northwich Flixton Villa and a brace of goals against Daisy Hill and Dudley.

Karl Miller put the Old Boys ahead after eight minutes.

David Wilson reduced the arrears for Widnes bang on half-time, but the Old Boys managed to keep a clean sheet in the second half to bag three valuable points.

Elsewhere in the league, 1874 Northwich missed an opportunity to knock Hanley Town off top spot when they lost out to Rochdale Town in a seven-goal thriller on Saturday.

Hanley were involved in a league challenge cup first round tie at Eccleshall, which they won 4-2.
