A disappointing start, as Town sunk by hat-trick

CHEADLE Town were sunk by a Shaun Rhodes hat-trick in their opening Premier Division fixture against Abbey Hulton United.

Jacob Hughes opened the scoring for the Abbey after 21 minutes and Rhodes made it 2-0 in the 53rd minute, before Jake Alcock replied.

Rhodes then added his second on 70 minutes and completed his hat-trick 10 minutes later.

Ball Haye Green opened at home to Eccleshall through Eddy Ellis, but Pete Williams equalised from the spot before the break.

Mike Keates restored the lead for Green after the break and Mitch Cartiledge added a third to seal the points.

Kieron Wain put visitors AFC Leek ahead at Hilton in the first half, but Jordan Mason equalised after the break.

Carl Chadfield added a second for Hilton to take the points.

Uttoxeter Town opened at home to Redgate Clayton from the spot through Jack Holly, only for Wayne Glover to equalise before the break.

Tommy Smith restored Uttoxeter’s lead in the second half but James Gartside equalised on the hour to deny them a debut win in the top flight.

In Division One, Jamie Disney opened for Stapenhill at home to Cheadle SMU in the first half. Charlie Rumin added a second after the break and Jordan Stevens added a third before Disney made it 4-0 with his second.

In Division Two, Matthew Cockfield scored a hat-trick for Longton against visitors Cheadle Town. Dean Johnson and an own goal completed the scoring for the winners.

Thomas Harvey scored four times for Uttoxeter Twon reserves against Featherstone who replied through Daniel Breakwell, Jamie Byrne and Toyan Vassel.
