POLICE have issued a warning after man posing as a Metropolitan police officer phoned an elderly woman in Cheadle and persuaded her to withdraw a substantial sum of money that he said he would arrange to collect from her later.

Luckily, bank employees advised her to check with us first.

Officers are now investigating this matter, but would strongly advise people not disclose any personal details over the phone.

Ask for details so you can verify who they are.

If someone calls at the door without an appointment, don't let them in until you've checked they are who they claim to be.

Please make sure you keep an eye on elderly or vulnerable neighbours and make them aware of this advice.
