Young cricket stars receive accolades from club

LEEK Cricket Club youngsters stepped forward to collect their awards at the junior section’s annual presentation evening at Highfield on Friday.

The club celebrated both team and individual successes of the 2013 season across the age groups from under 9s to under 17s.

The five teams in the junior section compete in both the South Moorlands Junior Cricket League (U9s, U11s, U13s and U15s) and the Kidsgrove Junior Cricket League (U13s and U17s).

The evening started with the club acknowledging those juniors who have played representative cricket this summer.

Dan Fowler-Hill, Sam Slater, Lucy Kelsall and Charlotte Steele represented their age groups at county level, while Ben Turner and Rory Haydon played for Staffordshire Northern Hurricanes at district level.

Individual awards were presented for winners of the batting and bowling averages together fielding awards for each age group: U9s Batting: Oliver Tweats Bowling: William Tweats Fielding: George Shenton U11s Batting: Rory Haydon Bowling: Rory Haydon Fielding: Luke Trafford U13s South Moorlands League Batting: Ben Turner Bowling: Ben Turner Fielding: Charlie Thackstone Kidsgrove League Batting: Ben Turner Bowling: Kieran Smith Fielding: Kieran Smith U15s Batting: Sam Slater Bowling: Sam Slater Fielding: Isaac Lees U17s Batting: Abeed Akhtar Bowling: Naveed Akhtar Fielding: Adam Stevenson In addition to these, a number of club trophies were presented: Elaine Gordon Trophy for most improved U9 player: Josh Woodcock.

Stan Hutchinson Trophy for best junior bowling performance: Matt Burrows.

John Beardmore Trophy for most promising U15 player: Dan Fowler-Hill.

AL Kidd Trophy for most promising U17 player: Sam Slater.

Arthur Hurd Trophy for Junior Club Person of the Year: Charlotte Steele
