Steven Moffat: New York was perfect for Doctor Who episode
'Doctor Who' showrunner Steven Moffat decided to set Amy Pond and Rory Williams' final adventure in New York because it "seemed to make sense".
The head writer and the cast and 'Doctor Who' crew are currently in the 'Big Apple' shooting the characters' ultimate battle with monsters the Weeping Angels and Moffat has revealed he decided quite quickly where he wanted the story to take place.
In an interview with BBC America, he said: "Something with Weeping Angels in New York seemed to make sense."
And the 50-year-old executive producer has promised fans the spectacular backdrop of the city will be used to full effect in episode five of the new series.
He added: "Oh, tragedy! There will be Weeping Angels there. We're not going to go there and film in a back street that we could have done in Cardiff."
Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill - who play Amy and Rory respectively - will be making their departure from the BBC One sci-fi show after starring opposite current Time Lord Matt Smith in two full series.
As the trio filmed scenes in Central Park on Wednesday (11.04.12) hundreds of fans descended on the shoot to catch a glimpse of their idols and to get autographs - and the actors checked themselves out on their phones to make sure they were looking in top condition for their supporters.
