AN AWARD winning folk superstar will be performing at the next village folk slot.
Phil Beer will be at the Folk at the Lion evening on Thursday, February 28 along with regulars Herbs and Leekies.
Phil is the multiinstrumentalist half of the west country's award winning acoustic duo, Show of Hands. He has played music all of his life and been a professional musician since 1975.
In that 36 years, he has played in too many bands and line ups to list fully and lost count of the number of record projects he has been involved in.
The most notable sessions in his career range from the Rolling Stones album Steel Wheels and Mike Oldfields live album Exposed to albums by The Albion Band with whom he toured for the best part of the eighties, not forgetting the large catalogue of Show Of Hands albums.
In recent years, Phil has been in demand as a record producer as well as a studio musician and he continues to tour full time with Show of Hands.
In addition to this heavy schedule, he also finds time to play a limited number of solo shows and is currently engaged in producing a major new solo studio album, his first for several years. His most recent accolade is the Spiral Earth Award for Best Musician, 2011.
Phil is also a keen sailor and achieved a lifetime ambition by completing an entire Tall hips race in 2009.
Songs and music of memory and significance sung in subtle and melodic Phil Beer style and interjected with musings and amusings to an almost personal audience. A treat of past and current favourites from one of the most popular musicians on the acoustic circuit.
Doors will open for Folk at the Lion on Thursday, February 28 at 8pm for an 8.30pm start at The Red Lion in Cheddleton. Tickets are priced at £12 and are available by calling 01538 385260.
