AN ‘ABSOLUTELY charming’ enterprise initiative is to compete for a regional title this weekend.
Westwood Sixth Form is taking part in a competitive Young Enterprise Fair again this year and this time the five girls representing the Leek college, will be entering with their jewellery company which is called ‘Absolutely Charming’.
The team consists of Megan Davies, aged 17, as Managing Director, Freya Gunn, aged 17, as Human Resources and Admin, Megan Green, aged 16, as Marketing, Eleanor Davies, aged 17, as Sales and IT and Lucy Eeles, aged 16, as Finance.
The girls have started their own jewellery business which initially began selling cabochon pendants. However, the entrepreneurial team has now branched out to offer a full jewellery range.
Megan Davies said: “We are a jewellery company that combines inspiration from nature with a vintage style. We especially focus on flowers and semi-precious stones.”
Lucy said: “Joining Young Enterprise has given me the confidence to set up a business in the future.
“It has given me a great experience in which I have developed many new skills within accountancy and sales, which I could apply in the future.”
The girls’ products, which are all priced at under £10, have already been showcased at Leek’s Victorian Market in December.
Megan said: “We were greatly received and we were overwhelmed by the success of taking part in the market.”
Karen Percival, who is Westwood College’s business teacher, said: “The team are working harder and more independently than any team I’ve ever seen.
“They are so professional and passionate and I am really proud of them.”
On Saturday (February 8), the team will take part in the Young Enterprise Fair at the Potteries Centre in Hanley where they will be judged on presentation and creative ideas against six other teams for the title of Regional Winner 2014.
