LAUNCHED only a few months ago the Werrington Lottery has proved to be a big success, hitting the first years target after only three weeks.

It is organised by the Werrington Community Volunteers Group which was formally known as the Parish Plan to improve the area and help make life better for residents.

The group has just received the recognition of being nominated for a Community Award.

Half of the fund is distributed in winners prizes, the remaining half will be used to develop the groups projects in the village which include Werrington in Bloom, the Jubilee Garden, Christmas Lights, Road Safety campaigns, more Seating, Crime Prevention initiatives, children's Edible Garden projects and the re-introduction of Neighbourhood Watch.

Volunteer Group Lottery Administrator Jocelyn Morrison said that she was delighted with the success of the fund and looked forward to as many people as possible coming along.

She added: "You can join the Lottery at any time. The more participants we have the more the fund will swell, the bigger the cash prizes, and the more good work we can do in the Village." In addition to receiving a cash pay-out the lucky Lottery winner will also get a bottle of bubbly kindly donated by a Werrington well-wisher. Lottery leaflets are available in shops and restaurants throughout the area or from 01782 303192 where details of how to join the group can also be obtained.
