A VILLAGE’S festival of painting has been hailed as a success.
The Foxt Festival of Painting was staged on Saturday in three venues within the village, including The Fox and Goose pub, the village hall and the church.
Organiser Vivienne Cowie said: "During what had been a cold and windy week, the sun finally shone and great preparations were made for the festival.
"Foxt Church was transformed into an art gallery with 10 individual artists and two groups exhibiting, demonstrating and selling their work with the aim of encouraging others to take up this most rewarding activity.
"The Fox and Goose hosted five artists from the Ashbourne Group who displayed wonderful work. Many thanks to The Fox and Goose for opening their doors to our village event.
"Three demonstrators showed us how to draw portraits, paint animals in acrylics and watercolour landscapes in the village hall, and along with excellent refreshments, a competition and raffle the grand sum of £420 was raised, to be equally divided between the church and village hall. We are indeed fortunate to have so many artists living and working in the beautiful Churnet Valley and there is no shortage of groups or workshops to join for those seeking expertise and inspiration.
"Thanks to all organisers, exhibitors, demonstrators, donators of refreshments and raffle prizes, setters up, clearers up and all other helpers.
"Thank you also to all those who turned up to support the event and make everybody's efforts worthwhile."
