Staffordshire County Girls League Cup Final

Leek Town under-16's 3

Hilton under-16's 0

LEEK Town under-16 girls completed a unique treble by beating a Hilton team 3-0 in the league cup final at Stafford Town on Saturday night.

No other team has won the County League championship and league cup, and the Staffordshire Cup before.

The game started at a fast pace with Hilton's attacks assisted by the wind.

The Leek defence of Charlotte Bromley, Isabel Wretham, Emma Smith and Mollie Shaw stood firm and played themselves out of trouble, releasing the ball to their midfield.

Hilton were finding the speedy wingers Lucy Kelsall and Elise Skelding difficult to deal with.

Both got beyond the Hilton defence at speed and created two good chances early on for Alice Naden who shot just wide, and Katie Maya who was denied by the keeper.

The wind posed a problem for Leek and Hilton won two corners, the first scrambled away and the second producing an excellent from keeper Hannah Austin. Leek went onto the attack again, this time via midfielders Kirsty Ryder and Amber Stanway, who were both very competitive in the central area. Kelsall won a corner and Stanway headed down into the six-yard from where Naden saw her snap-shot blocked on the line.

Leek left back Shaw embarked on several penetrating runs, with her speed taking her past the Hilton midfield to supply the Leek forwards.

The second half started with Leek on the attack and not having to contend with the wind.

Leek took the lead when a corner taken by Wretham eluded the Hilton goalkeeper and went directly into net just inside the far post. Hilton had a good chance to level but Austin saved well.

Leek went further ahead when Ryder beat two players before feeding Rothwell in the 18 yard box to fire into the net.

Substitutes Chloe Gerrity and Amelia Synowiec were introduced to the flanks and both performed well, winning the ball and making chances for the forwards.

With one minute to go Naden rounded two defenders and passed top Maya to score Leek's third goal. Player of match: Charlotte Bromley

Leek Town: Hannah Austin, Emma Smith, Charlotte Bromley, Isabel Wretham, Mollie Shaw, Lucy Kelsall, Amber Stanway, Kirsty Ryder, Elise Skelding, Katie Maya, Alice Naden, Becky Rothwell, Chloe Gerrity, Amelia Synowiec.
