TOWN leaders have paid tribute to former councillor Ray Hutchins, who has sadly passed away.

Mr Hutchins was a former councillor with Cheadle Town Council and Staffordshire County Council.

During the monthly committees' meeting on Monday, January 6, at the council offices in Leek Road, Cheadle Town Council held a minute silence in Mr Hutchins' honour before the meeting and councillors paid tribute to him.

Councillor Ivor Lucas said: "Ray served on this council for a number of years and on the county council and he had an artistic flair and was well known as an artist in the area."

Councillor Peter Elkin added: "He was tremendously involved with the National Arboretum and not only did he design the official Royal Mail stamp, which was produced to commemorate its creation, he also designed facilities for te Royal Engineers."
