A TRADER is considering forming a residents' association group on the back of complaints about the state of a series of vacant council-owned shops.

Alan Oakley, aged 66, of Cheddleton, who runs Bucknall Bikes and Fishing Tackle on Causley Road, says the units have been neglected.

He added: "I've had no luck with the local authorities – I think they've totally and utterly ignored it.

"I have considered putting a few leaflets about and forming a group to see if something can be done that way. Maybe we'd be invited to one or two meetings. I'll have to put pen to paper again to tell the council how disgusted I am."

Mr Oakley added: "The outside of the shops is just getting worse. I've still got the holes and damage outside in the drive and no-one's told me whether there is any interest regarding the vacant, boarded-up shops."
