After months of planning, the 2014 Leek Arts Festival is up and running with a whole host of events on offer over the next six weeks.
Heavy financial losses last year – mainly due to the economic downturn – forced festival organisers to revamp their approach to this year's programme with an emphasis on keeping costs down and providing best possible value for money.
But despite the difficulties, they have still managed to come up with more than 40 events.
These include big names such as Richard Digance, Mark Radcliffe, Vic Godard and Subway Sect.
Fairport Convention and Gavin Sutherland will also appear.
Festival spokesman Phil Edmeades said: "Tickets for all the main events are selling well and it looks as though the people of Leek are feeling a bit more confident about the economy than they were this time last year.
"That's great news because any profit we make this year will be ploughed back into next year's programme allowing us to book more top artists."
