LEEK A received a visit from London Road Club A and managed a not-very-convincing win by 139-124.

In a match containing four winners and four losers, it was enough to preserve their number one position in Division B after the relegation of last season.

The B team, at Wolstanton, WMC found it tricky with the exceptions of Dave Ferns, Margaret Wood and Dave Hollinshead.

The C team, at home to Knypersley B, went down because of four big losses, despite four winners, the best of which was Brenda Fry.

The Veterans League in the afternoon had Leek A at Coronation A – not a particularly familiar venue – and they struggled to cope and went down heavily, although Dave Hollinshead and Sandra Clark won.

The Vets B, at home to Coronation B, fared rather better and came home 143-127, with a big win for Don Wood.

The C team were at Railway and they won well against their B team with five winners, the best of whom was Sue Taylor.

In the Stoke-on-Trent League Division Two, Leek A were at the very challenging Westlands on the first green and achieved a rare tie on 141.

There were some good contests, the best of which was between Leek's Alan Gayes and Martin Walker, with the game finishing 21-20 in favour of Gayes. On many occasions, the end was seemingly won until the last wood arrived.

The B Team, at home to Pittshill, came unstuck but had three winners.

The Ladies League A team, at Baddeley Green, had a narrow defeat and the B team, playing twice in the week, lost at home to Westlands and away to Goldenhill WMC.

Better news in the Uttoxeter League focused on the B team at home to Jubilee, when all four doubles and six of the eight singles were won and a big score of 244 out of 252 was recorded.

Unfortunately, the A team had it all to do against a tough team at Bradley House and came away well beaten.
