Swimming success at St Edward's Academy in Leek

A team of swimmers from a Leek school have come out tops in the district.

A team of swimmers from St Edward's Academy in Leek took part in the annual Staffordshire Moorlands Swimming Gala at Biddulph Leisure Centre.

A total of 34 boys and girls from all years at St Edward's Academy competed against six other schools.

A spokesman at St Edward's said: "The year five and six boys team finished first and the girls team also finished first meaning we came first overall."

Individual race results included: Sam Reynolds 1st for Back Stroke and 2nd for Breast Stroke; Coby Capper 1st for Butterfly; Tom Hewson 1st for Front Crawl; Ellie Dakin 2nd for Back Stroke; Rebecca Brooks 2nd for Breast Stroke; Emelia Tomkinson 2nd for Butterfly; and Hannah Underwood 1st for Front Crawl.

The school spokesman added: "There were many other swimmers who also took part in the relays, which were a major contributing factor to the results.

"Once again all the children were a credit to our school for their effort and behaviour."
