TWO men have been charged in connection with shoplifting offences and will appear before North Staffordshire Magistrates' Court in Newcastle-Under-Lyme later this month.
Ryan Meredith, aged 20, of Ednam Place, Stoke-on-Trent, is charged with theft from a shop in Uttoxeter and attempted theft from a shop in Cheadle. He has been bailed to appear before magistrates in Newcastle on April 24.
Martyn Sayer, aged 33, from St Michael's Road, Stoke-on-Trent, is charged with 18 offences and due before magistrates on the same date.
He is charged with 11 thefts from a shop; failing to attend/remain for follow-up assessment following a test for presence of Class A drug; making off without making payment; two attempts at theft from a shop; driving while disqualified; using a motor vehicle on a road/public place without third party insurance; breach of bail.
The men were arrested on Thursday, February 20, when, acting on information received, police officers stopped the vehicle they were travelling in just after the A53 turn off, known locally as the MFI roundabout, and arrested them on suspicion of theft following an earlier incident at Asda in Cheadle.
