CHEADLE'S 1st XI cricketers had a weekend of mixed fortunes.

After losing at home to league opposition on Sunday, they recovered to progress in the Staffordshire Cup the following day.

In the league, Cheadle won the toss and elected to bowl first against Sandyford.

A good start saw Sandyford restricted to 40-1 from the first 20 overs. Chris Barker and Sujith Nikethana eventually claimed four wickets each, leaving Sandyford all out for 156.

The Cheadle run chase got off to a terrible start, with both openers falling in successive balls.

The only Cheadle batsmen to show any kind of resistance were Matt and Jimmy Sellers.

Cheadle were eventually all out for 99, leaving Sandyford victorious.

The following day, Cheadle visited Oulton in the Staffs Cup, with a place in the quarter finals the prize for the winning team.

Cheadle batted first on a very hot day, the wickets fell steadily yet again, and it was left to captain Chris Barker (37) to push the score up to 185.

Cheadle were confident that this would be enough to win and a good opening spell from Jimmy Sellers (2-19 from nine overs) and Charlie Goldstraw applied early pressure.

Wickets continued to fall as Will Dobbie (3-20 from 6.5 overs ) and Sujith Nikethana (3-2 from 5 overs).

Oulton were eventually all out in the 42nd over for 167. This left Cheadle victorious and facing a trip to Leek in the quarter-finals.
