Stoke legend tackles world

STOKE City’s legendary defender Mike Pejic has been tackling the globe’s best on the martial arts scene.

The 63-year-old, pictured above, represented Great Britain in the recent World Taekwondo championships in Bali.

Pejic, from Leek, emerged with a creditable 10th place in the senior Poomae class.

Poomae is the demonstation non-contact version of the sport, which originates from Korea.

A total of 51 countries from five continents competed in the 2013 world championships.

Pejic was picked for GB after collecting a silver medal in the men’s over-60 division at the British Championships in Sheffield.

A third dan black belt, Pejic said: “Taking part in a world championship in Bali is something I could never have imagined when I first took up Taekwondo, back in the 1990s.”
