A Stoke-on-Trent man is being sought by Staffordshire Police for failing to appear at court.

John Boy Hamer (40) was due to appear at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Friday 17 January but failed to turn up.

He was due to be sentenced for conspiracy to defraud after pleading guilty to committing 15 offences where he took payment from elderly victims for repairs to their roofs and never returned to carry out the work.

These offences happened in north Staffordshire and West Mercia areas between September 2012 and summer 2013.

Hamer has connections in the Stoke-on-Trent or Crewe areas and the public are urged to keep an eye out for him and contact police should they see him.

DS Emily Clews, of Staffordshire Police, said: “Officers are carrying out extensive inquiries to trace and arrest Hamer and are appealing for assistance from the public.

“Anyone who knows of his whereabouts should contact Staffordshire Police on 101.

“Alternatively, they can contact independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
