ELMO'S Celtic sprung a surprise as underdogs by beating top Potteries side Darcy's 2-0 to lift the Staffs FA Sunday Premier Cup.
Goals from Mitch Shenton stunned the Coors Premier Division outfit in last Thursday night's final at Norton United FC. Elmo's become the second Leek club to win the prestigious trophy, following Blue Mugge's success against Chell Knave in the 2010 final.
Player/manager Sam Pettitt said: "We are all mates from school, and I think that showed in our determination to win the cup.
"Darcy's are a top side in the Potteries, but we all fought for one another and in the end, we deserved to win."
Due to their cup commitments and postponements caused by the exceptionally wet winter weather, Elmo's players face a stamina-sapping finish to the season. They have played six just games so far in the Leek and District Sunday League.
Pettitt, who led Elmo's to the league title last season, said: "Fortunately, I have signed quite a few players over the last few weeks."
