ON SUNDAY, 27th July, Staffordshire YFC held their Annual Raft Race down the River Dove, starting just outside of Rocester and finishing at Eaton Dovedale Farm by kind permission of Mr J Bamford. Twenty-seven rafts, hand crafted and designed by members over the last few weeks then tested on local club waters for buoyancy and speed, took to the river on the gorgeous summer's evening.

For some teams, it was a leisurely sail down the river, enjoying the fun and team spirit in this last competition of the membership year.

For others, competition points and prize money were a stake, and therefore their oars were at full speed and the race was on!

Supporters and stewards from across the county also walk the River Dove to ensure that the race is held safely and all members make it over the finishing line before dusk sets in.

A barbecue and celebration drinks kindly hosted by Rocester Football Club, was then held with over 150 supporters and members gathering to hear the results.

This competition is one of the many activities which members of Staffordshire Young Farmers can take part in.

The Federation welcomes anyone aged 10 – 26 years from all walks of life with no stipulation that one has to be "from a farm", to join their organisation and become an active member enjoying a great social life and learning new skills every week.

The new membership years starts on 1st September with all 10 clubs across the county holding their Annual General Meetings and Club New Members/Joining Up nights.
