Residents, partners and businesses are being asked to nominate their Fire Service Champion of 2014 as part of the prestigious MORE Awards.

During the ceremony, which is now in its seventh year, a member of staff or a team will be recognised for their outstanding contribution and commitment to Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

There are nine categories in total but the winner of the Fire Service Champion accolade will be decided by members of the community. Votes can now be cast.

The person who scoops the coveted title will have demonstrated a real community spirit or will have gone beyond the call of duty to support people to overcome difficult situations.

Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive Peter Dartford urged residents to get involved in the ceremony by making their nomination.

He said: “The MORE Awards recognise the outstanding work that members of the Service, from firefighters to support staff and Home Fire Risk Check technicians do on a daily basis.

"The majority are voted for internally, however the Fire Service Champion category is special in that members of the public are asked to put people forward who they think have really made a difference to the community they serve.

“We would love to hear from you if you have had a positive experience and feel that an individual or team should be commended for going above and beyond the call of duty.”

Members of the public can make nominations through the Service’s website at www.staffordshirefire.gov.uk, by collecting a form from their local fire station or by calling 01785 898979 to request a form.

The closing date for nominations is March 31.

The remaining eight categories are put forward internally, with one of the awards being presented to an external organisation which has assisted the Service through its contribution to fire safety.

They include:

· Fire Service Champion (voted by staff)

· Fire Service Champion – Partnership Achievement

· Fire Service Fundraiser Champion

· Fire Service Champion – Service to the Community

· Peter Harrison Innovation and Improvement Champion

· Leadership Message and Cultural Framework Champion

· Young Person of the Year

· Member Involvement in the Community

The award winners will be announced at the County Showground in Stafford on June 12 2014.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is actively seeking sponsorship for the MORE Awards ceremony.

Any interested businesses should contact Events Manager Jude Russell on 01785 898579 for further information.
