LEEK recorded their first back-to-back wins of the season when they ousted Cheadle from the Staffordshire Cup on Sunday.
Cheadle struggled to contain a Leek side containing three current Staffordshire county players – Alex Mellor, Alex Thomson and skipper Greg Willott.
Thomson blasted his way to 78 runs, as Leek totalled 262-6 off their allocated 45 overs, before being bowled by Cheadle's professional Sujith Nikentha.
Openers Ross Dearden and Alex Mellor got Leek off to a solid start by putting 54 runs on the board before the fall of the first wicket.
Nikentha finished with figures of 2-45 as the Leek batsmen shone brightly in the sun.
James Sellers (1-45), Chris Barker (1-58), Jack Hassall (1-31) and William Dobbie (1-55).
It has to be said that Cheadle put up a brave fight in reply – led by Tom Cadman (55 not out) and Jake Mills (44) – recovering well after finding themselves 9-1 and then 17-2.
However, the visitors were no further than 172-6 at the close.
Malik was the most economical of the Leek bowlers with figures of 1-7, closely followed by Willott on 1-9.
Paul Hammersley (1-19), Jean Rossouw (2-28) and Chris Beech (1-28) shared the other wickets.
