CHEADLE were caught cold by an Oliver Jepson goal after just six minutes, but they stormed back to win despite having a player taken to hospital.

Alex Wood sustained a head injury on giving his side the lead the after 40 minutes.

Cheadle boss Alan Beaman said: “There was no way Alex could continue – it was a nasty gash, we sent him to Leek hospital to get patched up. They did a quick job on him, because he was back in time to watch the closnig minutes.” Sam Gavin had equalised for Cheadle before Wood bravely stuck his head in to score. Dan Rooksby increased Cheadle’s lead on the hour mark but Frank Hughes reduced the margin 12 minutes later.

Cheadle’s fourth goal came in the 90th minute direct from a free kick converted by John Evans.

“The lads played well and in particular Nat Pearson in the centre of midfield,” said a delighted Beaman.

Pearson has only just returned to the side after a long-term hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, Cheadle have lost teenage striker Jake Alcock to North West Counties League outfit Norton United.

“We’ll miss him for his hard work but we’ll cope without him,” said Beaman, adding: “If things don’t work out for him, I’ll be happy to have him back.”
