Doyle: No problems in Ireland squad
Kevin Doyle has rubbished claims of disharmony within the Republic of Ireland squad, insisting that all the players remain firmly behind manager Giovanni Trapattoni.
The Republic squad landed in London on Saturday morning amid a fresh storm of controversy. Barely half an hour after Trapattoni's team had masterminded a dramatic comeback victory over Kazakhstan, the Italian was fighting yet another fire after James McClean took to Twitter to air his grievance about being left on the bench.
After watching the Republic struggle to a 2-1 win as a substitute, the Sunderland winger wrote on Twitter: "delighted as a fan we got the win. Personal level #fuming #f*****joke #embarrassing". Doyle, however, insists everyone is fully behind their manager. "Everyone respects the manager and there is no other scenario," he said.
Doyle, who scored Friday night's winner in the 89th minute, added: "The atmosphere is the same here as it has been in any Republic squad I've been involved in.
"Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but as far as I can see everyone is right behind the manager and hopefully that win will help ease the pressure on us."
Trapattoni will speak to McClean on Saturday morning about his outburst before deciding whether to kick the 23-year-old out of his squad for Tuesday's friendly against Oman at Craven Cottage.
Trapattoni is expected to make several changes to his side, with the likes of Stephen Kelly, David Meyler and Andy Keogh set to be given a chance to stake a claim for a place in the team to face Germany in the country's next qualifier.
Doyle admits the team must improve on their performance from Friday night if they are to beat the Group C favourites at the Aviva Stadium on October 12.
The Wolves striker said: "Obviously that will be a big step up in terms of the opposition so we will have to improve a lot. It will be a totally different game."
