Leek Town fear no-one insist management

MATT Beeby insists that Leek Town are "up there with the best teams in the league."

Blues banished the memory of successive draws against Kidsgrove Athletic and Kings Lynn Town - after dominating for long spells in both - by hammering Romulus 5-1 on Saturday. And Town's management team are now targeting further strides up the First Division South table.

Beeby said: "We have played well in games but not won. Carlton away we had a mad 15 minutes and then dominated. In the Kidsgrove game the first 25 minutes was pretty even and then we dominated.

"We said we will tank someone soon because we'll take more chances than we have been doing. That's not a criticism of the forwards, it's a criticism all round. We've not been short of confidence. We have a really strong group of players and have been playing some really good football."

Beeby reckons Town are now exceeding the high standards set last season when the Blues made it through to the play-off final. He added: "It's probably the best football we have played all season and probably better than last year. But at the end of the day it's a results business.

"It's still very promising. We are in a good position in mid-table with games in hand. We're confident we can win those games. There's no-one in the league we fear."

Town's bid to force their way towards the play-off zone cranks up a gear this weekend with a trip to fifth-placed Gresley. Last season's Midland Alliance champions halted a run of successive defeats by withstanding a spirited Chasetown comeback last weekend. And Beeby is keen to get one over a side who stole all three points back in September courtesy of a late Dean Oliver double.

He said: "They've lost their main forward (Oliver). But they are a decent side - they wouldn't be up there otherwise. They don't score a lot but don't concede many."
