STAFFORDSHIRE Surge American Football Club have launched an appeal to recruit players from across Leek and the Moorlands.
Surge are based at Longton Rugby Club and play in Division Two Central of the British American Football Association National League.
Leek-based Surge star Joseph Walters said: "We currently have two players from Leek, but I think it has the potential to become an even more popular sport.
"I am aware of a fair few fans of the NFL - most of whom have never actually played the game but would probably relish the opportunity.
"The best thing about American football is that there is a position for everybody, whether you are six foot one inch and 20-odd stone - such as myself - or five foot six inches and 11 stone like one of our wide receivers. It's a game for everybody."
Surge train at Trentham High School on Sundays, with league matches also taking place on Sundays between April and August.
Plans are also in place to create a youth team for the 2013 season, with players aged between 14 and 17.
Surge chairman Mark Finney added: "We currently have a modest sized squad of around 35 players of all ages and experience.
"Our minimum age is 18, but we also have a number of dedicated veteran players who continue to play well into their 50s.
"We are always recruiting new players and we are intending to grow our team over the next few years."
