Caswell calls on coaching experience

LEE Casswell has pulled off something of a coup by taking on two experienced coaches for the first team at Harrison Park.

He has recruited outfield coach Martin Prentice and goalkeeping coach Jason McGuire.

Both have had experience in the Blue Square League with Tamworth and Eastwood Town respectively.

Prentice has also coached at Stone Dominoes and Hucknall Town.

* MEANWHILE, Town have revealed that they are to run a football scholarship programme, beginning in the 2013/14 season.

The programme will be a unique opportunity for talented 16 to 18-year-old male football players to pursue a two-year football and education scholarship, playing in the Conference Youth Alliance League.

A club spokesman said: gIf you want to get a first-class education that will get you to university; to gain qualifications to work in the sports industry; to train and compete in a professional sports environment, or to become a coach or referee, this is the programme for you.h To ensure students are fully prepared for the future, the scholarship includes a full-time education package, incorporating a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma, worth up to three A Levels.

All learning takes place at Harrison Park , under the direction of experienced education professionals.

Participants have access to a computer and a bespoke virtual learning environment, which helps teachers deliver personalised learning.

The students will also have the opportunity to train in football for up to six hours a week with Leek Townfs community coaches, under the direction of Steve Kell.

Training will be supplemented with regular fixtures against other teams in the Conference Youth Alliance, as well as Football fixtures under the CLUB banner.
