THE president of Cheadle Historical Society has sadly passed away.

George Short was taken ill only a short time before his death.

George had been a backbone of the society for decades and Meetings Lists indicate that he attended his first meeting as a member in October 1970, although he had already spoken to the society at the AGM in April of that year when his subject was 'Tracing Cheadle Church History'. At its meeting on Wednesday, November 6, Chairman, Peter Wilson was set to comment further on George and his achievements.

The final meeting of 2013 will be on Wednesday, December 4, when Cathryn Walton will give us a talk entitled 'The Nicholson Family - Industrialists, Philanthropists'.

It is the talk which was scheduled for last February but had to be cancelled because of heavy snow across the district.
