CHEADLE Town under-16's were cruelly denied a place in the Sentinel Shield quarter-finals after going out to ASC Tigers on penalties at Nantwich on Sunday.

With the scores locked at 1-1 at the end of extra-time, it needed the best of eight penalty kicks to edge Cheadle out of the competition in a dramatic shoot-out.

Tigers went ahead from a controversial penalty in the 15th minute, awarded for an alleged shirt pull in the box following a corner kick. This knocked Cheadle back and shortly afterwards, they were dealt another blow when a bad tackle left the impressive Fantis unable to continue.

Cheadle regrouped and Pattinson volleyed the scores level eight minutes from time. The first seven penalties were all converted but the eighth was saved by the Tigers keeper to put his side through.
