A YOUNG girl has decided to have her long locks all cut off for ill children.
Saffron Critchlow, aged eight, currently has around 22 to 24 inches in long hair.
But the youngster has decided to have it all cut off so that it can be used to make wigs for ill children.
Saffron, who attends St Mary’s Primary School in Leek, said: “I have wanted my hair cut for a while and thought why not have it cut for a good cause.
“So I will be having it cut at a special event at school and my hair will be given to the Little Princess Trust.” Mum Helen said: “Saffron first indicated that she wanted to give her hair away when we visited the Space Centre in Leicester.
“She saw a little girl who had no hair and she asked me why she had no hair.
“I told her that it could be that she had been ill and had treatment which made her hair fall out.
“Saffron, who was around four at the time, said then that she wished she could give her hair to that little girl – but at the time she didn’t have very long hair.” Now, with her dark strawberry blonde hair so long she can sit on it, Saffron has decided to do what she said she wished she could all those years ago.
She will be having her hair cut at a special charity day at her school early next month, when fellow pupils will be invited to wear wigs or have freaky hair for the day in return for a donation to the Little Princess Trust.
Saffron, who has two brothers, Max aged 10 and Thomas, aged 16, is intending to have a bob style haircut.
She said: “It may feel a little cold at first but I can just wear a hat if I get cold.
“I won't miss all the brushing it takes at the moment.” Helen added: “I am very proud of Saffron for doing this and we have raised around £200 for the charity so far, which is great.
“It will probably upset me more than her when her lovely long hair is all cut off. But it is for a very good cause.” Anyone wishing to donate to Saffron’s challenge can go online to www.justgiving.com/saffroncritchlow.
