CHEADLE SMU narrowly failed in their bid to reach the final of the Staffs FA Challenge Cup for the first time. They were beaten 3-1 at home by West Midlands outfit Sikh Hunters at the semi-final stage on Saturday.

The cup clash at the Thorley Drive sportsground was one only a handful of games in North Staffordshire which beat the weather.

The entire programme of fixtures in the Staffordshire County Senior League was washed out.

SMU put up a brave fight against their opponents from Division Two of the West Midlands Regional League who netted through Narinda Sundu (2) and Colin Smith. Mitchell Finney replied for the hosts.

The Cheadle side return to league action this Saturday, when they host Redgate Clayton Reserves.

CHEADLE Town End progressed to the fourth round of the Staffs FA Sunday Cup by beating Drill Burntwood 7-2. Aaron Eyre led the scoring with a hat-trick and was ably backed up by Ash Emery (2), Shaun Keates and Ash Seabridge.
