WAITROSE will be opening it’s new store in Leek tomorrow (Thursday, May 1).
Reporter Belinda Hargreaves was today (Wednesday) given a preview tour of the store by opening manager Becky Wollam.
“It’s all excitement today and no stress at our store and we are all looking forward to opening our doors to the people of Leek tomorrow.” That’s what 26-year-old Becky said today, even though there appears to be a bit of work to be completed within the store before Leek Town Mayor John Fisher officially opens the new food store at 8am tomorrow.
There is certainly a buzz in the Waitrose Leek store with partners (53 who have transferred from working for Co-op, and 96 who have joined the company for this store opening) finishing their training and/or stocking the remaining shelves.
Becky said: “Our partners, who have been training at the Lichfield store, first came into the Leek store on Monday and there has been lots of excitement.
“It was brilliant to see their faces when they first came to have a look around.
“I have found them all really upbeat and engaging.”
The Leek Waitrose store has a number of fresh deli counters including: fish, meat, cheese and deli, and bread.
There are two ‘Quick Serve’ tills, six main tills, and three ‘podium’ kiosk tills. There is also a cafe with lots of seating.
Waitrose in Leek will be open 8am until 9pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am-4pm on Sundays. The Post Office branch within the store, which has doubled it’s staffing to facilitate longer opening hours. will be open from 8am until 8pm Monday to Saturday, and Sundays 10am-4pm.
The store will also be offering online grocery shopping from Tuesday (May 6).
There have been 2,000 special ‘Leek Waitrose’ canvas bags produced which will be handed out to customers tomorrow.
And customers are being invited to take advantage of Waitrose’s ongoing initiative of ‘My Waitrose Card’ which entitles the holder to a free cup of coffee or tea every day, a free Waitrose magazine, as well as special offers and the chance to win prizes.
