THERE was a large white van parked outside the chapel when I arrived and two youngish men unloading and setting up for our supper in the schoolroom.
Anthony Foy and his trusty sidekick Sam were there to make a room of ladies extremely happy with a fish and chip supper .
Tables were quickly laid up and a quick decision was made to start with the main meeting and stop when supper was ready as we were all very hungry.
Business was dealt with quickly. Karen read through the minutes and matters arising included results from the Group Meeting.
Glenys told members what a super evening it had been. The Autumn Group Meeting will be hosted by Woodcroft and the speaker Meredith Townes will be talking on "Women of Adventure".
There was lots of paperwork from NFWI to read out and several interesting SFWI meetings including an evening Race Night at Uttoxeter on Monday, 28th July.
Members were encouraged to enter classes at Leek Show and we had several takers.
After much deliberation it was decided that we would enter the main display, theme "A Season" with more help needed on the day from members.
We managed to finish the main business just as the first servings of fish and chips were brought in from the van. Very soon there was little time for gossip as all members tucked into fish, chips and mushy peas. Some members enjoyed a good old chip butty. Anthony produced cheesecake for dessert and then our two chefs set about clearing up whilst we enjoyed a cup of tea. A delicious supper, our thanks go to Anthony and Sam for cooking and serving our delicious meal and then taking all dirty plates away for washing elsewhere.
When members were ready Glenys outlined the rules for our game of Easter Bunnies (based on the game Beetle).
Soon members were rolling dice, drawing bunnies and giving exasperated sighs as the game finished and winners moved on. Overall winner was Vera Beech. Members were reminded that May was AGM month with a talk by Julie Beeston on "The Donna Louise Trust". If you would like to join the committee we would love to see you at our short meetings. Before everyone left Glenys wished them a safe journey home.
June 17th – Outing to "Wincle Brewery". Husbands and guests welcome. Cost £5 for supper.
