STAFFORDSHIRE Moorlands AC have avoided relegation by a whisker in the Birmingham Cross-Country League.
A disastrous performance in the final Division One fixture of the season at Cheltenham saw them finish last of the 16 teams.
However, they totalled up enough points on the day to finish 13th overall and avoid the drop down into Division Two. Wolverhampton and Bilston AC were relegated.
The club is offering a 10-week course to women who would like to start running and possibly prepare to compete in the five-kilometre Cancer Research Race for Life later in the year.
The course is open to all over-16s and is taking place under floodlights at Birchall playing fields on Monday evenings, between 6pm-7pm.
Places are limited and there is a charge of £6 for the course to cover the cost of the lights.
More details can be obtained from Jill on 01538 382239.
The club's annual meeting will take place at the Roebuck Hotel in Derby Street, Leek, on Tuesday, February 25, from 8pm.
RUNNERS are invited to take part in an annual fund-raising event in the Moorlands this weekend.
This Sunday sees the Knype Pool charity race staged at Knypersley Pool.
The five-mile race, beginning at 11am, follows a popular one-mile fun run half an hour earlier.
Runners can register on the day – the cost is £7 for affiliated runners and £8 for unaffiliated entrants.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Biddulph branch of the Staffordshire Moorlands Cancer Support Group and the Donna Louise Trust.
