AN AUTHOR is launching his latest book of yesteryear and current illustrations.
Neil Collingwood, of West Street in Leek, will be launching his latest creation 'Rudyard, Rushton and The Roaches Through Time' at a special book signing event at Leek Library next Wednesday (September 18).
The book published by Amberley Publishing is in the same series as the 'Leek Through Time' title that Neil launched last year which sold 750 copies within 14 days.
Neil said: "Each page of 'Rudyard, Rushton and The Roaches Through Time' consists of an old sepia-tone photo accompanied by a new full-colour photo taken by me of the same scene.
"Each pair of photos is accompanied by a caption which adds information about what the photos show, explains where they were taken etcetera.
"The book is constructed as though a visitor to North Staffordshire had arrived at the railway station at Rudyard and is exploring the arc of countryside around the north of Leek. It includes railway stations, Rudyard Lake itself, churches, country houses and the villages of Rudyard, Meerbrook, Upper Hulme, Wincle and Blackshaw Moor.
"There is a wide variety of subjects, including the wallabies of The Roaches and the book should appeal to local people and visitors alike. It will also appeal to both young and old.
"The only contentious issue in the book may be the spelling of The Roaches but this is after all how the Ordnance Survey spell it so who am I to disagree."
Neil's book-signing event on September 18, will run from 10am until 12.30pm. He will be situated in the 'bridge' which connects Leek Library and Leek College, off Stockwell Street, Leek.
Anyone unable to attend the signing, but who would like to purchase a copy of 'Rudyard, Rushton and The Roaches Through Time', can contact Neil on 01538 386606 or by email firstname.lastname@example.org to be able to buy a signed copy of the book for £11.99 (£3 less than recommended retail price.)
