A DANCE student has successfully auditioned for a ballet scholarship scheme.

Rie Knowles, who attends the Jeanette Corbishley Dance Studio in Leek, has been selected by the British Ballet Organiation to train once a month at the Centre Pointe Dance Studios in Manchester.

Eleven-year-old Rie, who lives in Endon, said: "I feel over the moon and so excited to be awarded the scholarship. In the future I would like to continue to progress with my training and become a professional ballet dancer."

Scholars receive tuition from some of the most respected teachers in the country, all of whom have had distinguished professional careers.

Rie's mum, Mrs Knowles said: "We were very proud of Rie and delighted she had been awarded the scholarship.

"She has been dancing since she was three years old and absolutely loves it. This is a great opportunity for her to develop her dancing."

Rie, who has been training at Jeanette Corbishley Dance Studio for a number of years, follows two other students from the studio. Siblings Lucy Hancock who received a scholarship with the ISTD Northern Associates Junior Group and Lewis Hancock who received a Elmhurst Associate Programme last September.

Principal Jeanette Corbishley said: "I am extremely proud of all my students achievements.

"To gain a scholarship place is extremely hard and will be a fantastic opportunity for Rie.

"Rie always puts in 100 percent in to her dancing and is a true asset to the school. I wish her every success in the future." Jeannette added: "The dance studio had a fantastic year last year. 2013 saw the studio take to the Rep Theatre stage for its bi-annual show 'Express Yourself' which was a fantastic success.

"We had outstanding examination marks too with 100 percent pass rate across ballet, tap and jazz examinations; no students received just a pass mark."

Between the October and November exam sessions students at the Jeanette Corbishley Dance Studio received 30 Merits and 46 Distinctions.

Jeanette said: "This is amazing. Some students received a Distinction in all three disciplines.

"To have had 100 per cent pass rate since we opened 11 years ago is a real achievement."
