CHEADLE Academy is celebrating after an 'outstanding' set of record GCSE results.

Seventy-seven percent of students gained five plus A* to C which is up by 18 percent from last year (59 percent 2012); and 68 percent of the students gained five plus A*-C including English and Maths which is up by 16 percent from last year (52 percent 2012).

In Physics, Chemistry and Biology there were 100 percent pass rates at A*-C. Other subjects achieved outstanding results at GCSE standard: PE 100 percent, Art Textiles 97 percent, Fine Art 94 percent, English Literature 91 percent, English Language 75 percent, Maths 76 percent, Music 83 percent, Drama 64 percent and French 54 percent.

The pass rate for students gaining five plus A* – C grades including English and Maths is 66 percent.

One hundred percent of Year 11 at Cheadle Academy have achieved at least one or more passes at A*-G grade. There was an outstanding performance by students studying Level Two Vocational courses where 46 percent of all grades were awarded a Distinction* or Distinction. ICT, Business Studies, PE, Performing Arts, Dance and Health and Social Care all achieved 100 percent equivalent A*-C pass rates. This level of performance has significantly improved the post-16 options for the Academy students.

The top performing students were: Chloe Johnson (5A*, 5A, 1B, 2Distinction*), Callum Pooler (5,3,2,4D*), Alice Chilton (3,4,5), Daniel Jones (2,4,4,D*), Rachel Button (2,4,3), Zoe Gibbon (1,7,2,2D*), Rebecca Chilton (1,6,2,2D*), Shane Lovatt (1,5,3,2D*), Fearne Hepden (1,5,4,2D*), Natalie Bentley (1,4,4,2D*) , Ryan Day (1,3,2,4D8).

Principal Pam Clulow praised the students for their hard work in achieving such good results and thanked the staff and parents for supporting them. She said: "These results are testament to the students being independent learners, determined to reach their potential and being able to acquire the skills required to go onto further education and employment."

Executive Principal Keith Hollins added: "It can be argued that the national averages for five plus A*-C and Total Points Score in particular, are significantly higher as a consequence of the increase in the number of 'vocational' courses taken nationally; many schools use these courses to boost their position in the League Tables.

"The attainment of students following a more 'traditional' curriculum, like The Cheadle Academy’s, evaluated against national averages in these two measures in particular will be ‘depressed’ as a result.

"We will continue to provide a traditional, academic curriculum composed mainly of GCSEs for the vast majority of our students because this is the best curriculum to enable our students to progress to employment or Further and Higher Education.

We will also continue to enable students to have as wide a vocational curriculum as possible where it is the best thing for them."
