THE village of Oakamoo's war memorial has been donated to the village by Staffordshire-based pub company, Punch Taverns.

The First World War memorial, which is situated on The Square as part of the Punch Taverns-owned Cricketers Arms site, was donated on January 31.

Gary Wild, Estates Development Manager at Punch said: "The memorial formed part of our ownership of The Cricketers Arms which is currently for sale.

"We wanted to ensure that the village had ownership of it for future posterity. The villagers do such a good job of upkeep, we approached the parish council to make the donation and we are pleased to announce that it is now in their ownership."

Jeff Wood, of Oakamoor Parish Council, was delighted to accept this donation: "It is important that memorials such as this remain an essential feature at the heart of Oakamoor.

"We are delighted to have it in our ownership and would like to thank Punch Taverns for the donation."
