OCCUPIERS of homes in two villages could see fuel bills reduced if plans to erect air source heat pumps at their properties is given planning approval.
Moorlands Housing has applied for planning permission from Staffordshire Moorlands District Council to erect the air pumps at the side of eight properties in Moorfield Close, Cauldon Lowe, and three homes in School Close, Dilhorne.
In a supporting document submitted to planners it states the heat pumps would each measure 1730mm (5.6 feet) in height by 840mm in width (2.7 feet) and 830mm in diameter.
The system allows for remote diagnostics and setting, which allows a technician to adjust the temperature from another location after discussing it with the customer over the phone.
Your Moorlands, which is part of Your Housing Group, has already fitted some of the air pumps into properties at Longnor as part of its programme.
Nick Grubb, head of Your Moorlands said: “Prior to being fitted in the bungalows at Cauldon Lowe and Dilhorne we had fitted air source heat pumps (ASHP) in Longnor as part of our investment programme.
“The fitting of these pumps has demonstrably reduced the costs of heating the properties, while creating a more even and satisfactory heat throughout the homes.
“The ASHP we install allows for remote diagnostics and setting, which means a technician can adjust the temperature and identify any issues from another location, simply by discussing it with the customer over the phone and connecting to their system. When the ASHP runs for a certain amount of time there is a surplus of heat created.
“This unique by-product of heat that would essentially be wasted is in fact effectively recovered and utilised to provide addition heat for the hot water.
“This efficiently maintains the domestic hot water tank temperature whilst carrying out the central heating. This hugely reduces the amount of money spent on domestic water with bills being drastically reduced.”
A decision on the two planning applications is expected to be made by planners at the district council in about six weeks.
