A LONG-SERVING volunteer has been awarded for his efforts helping out in a charity shop.

Toby Owen, aged 43, pictured, has been a volunteer at the Scope Charity shop in Derby Street, Leek, since it opened 15 years ago.

Toby, who lives in Stockwell Street, spends one day a week at the shop helping to sort through donations. Manager Ann Lee said: "Toby is lovely - always very pleasant. Everyone in Leek knows him and he talks to lots of people when he goes out onto the shop floor.

"I think it is fantastic that he has given up that time each week for the charity for the past 15 years.

"He is a very popular volunteer with a great sense of humour.

“We have a laugh - especially if he finds something unusual amongst the donations.” Toby was, last week, presented with a 15 years service certificate along with some special 'Scope' crystal glasses.
