Potteries Junior Youth league Under 16s
Leek Town 2 Cheadle Town 1
DESPITE producing an excellent display against the unbeaten league leaders, Cheadle had the frustration of coming home empty-handed.
Leek took the lead against the run of play after just eight minutes. From a Cheadle attack, the ball was cleared high up the field, where the Leek winger raced onto the ball and scored at the second attempt after an initial good save from George Webb.
The game then settled down, with both sides giving their all in a fiercely competitive game, but neither keeper was really troubled and the half finished 1-0 to the hosts.
Cheadle increased the tempo and deservedly equalised four minutes into the second half. An Andy Coxon free kick was met at the far post by Jake Campbell, who fed Macauley Rowe to head home
Cheadle piled on the pressure, with Andoni Fantis and Jack Derbyshire excelling in midfield, and Campbell headed attempt cannoned off the crossbar.
The crucial deciding goal came with just eight minutes remaining.
A rare Leek attack forced Cheadle into conceding a corner. From the resultant flag kick, the Leek striker bundled the ball over the line, with Cheadle making desperate appeals for hand ball.
Cheadle return to action in the New Year with a visit Chasetown in round four of the County Cup.
