POLICE searching for a missing 45-year-old man have discovered a body.

They made the gruesome discovery near Leek this afternoon.

Detectives believe the body is that of David Palin who had been staying with friends in Bottomhouse, near Leek, when he disappeared.

Mr Palin is from Crewe but had been living in London.

A police spokesman said: "Mr Palin was reported missing at around 10.30pm on Thursday after friends he was staying with in Bottomhouse became concerned.

"A significant search of the Moorlands was undertaken by police and sadly this afternoon the search was called off when the body was discovered around a mile from Blackbrook.

"There are no suspicious circumstances and detectives are preparing a report for Her Majesty's Coroner as is normal in cases like this.

"Officers are comforting friends and relatives at this tragic time and Staffordshire Police want to thank everyone who helped support the appeal for the missing man."
