Parties vie for EU seats

THE latest round of European elections take place on May 22.

It is the eighth time voters have gone to the polls since the European Parliament's first direct elections in 1979.

Seven MEPs will be chosen for the West Midlands region, which includes the Staffordshire Moorlands, and the successful candidates will join a total of 73 UK MEPs in the 751-member parliament, which represents 28 member states.

The UK election is run under a party list voting system, with each party putting forward candidates in numerical order for election.

People then vote for a party, rather than a person, and the proportion of votes determines how many candidates from their list are elected.

Labour candidates for the West Midlands are: Neena Gill, Sion Simon, Linda Waltho, Ansar Ali Khan, Olwen Hamer, Tony Ethapemi and Philippa Roberts.

Conservatives candidates are: Philip Bradbourne, Anthea McIntyre, Dan Dalton, Michael Burnett, Sibby Buckle, Dan Sames and Alex Aver.

Liberal Democrats candidates are:- Philip Bennion, Jonathan Webber, Christine Tinker, Ayoub Khan, Tim Bearder, Neville Farmer and John Redfern.

UK Independence Party (UKIP) candidates are:- Jill Seymour, Jim Carver, Bill Etheridge, Phil Henrick, Michael Wrench, Michael Green and Lyndon Jones.

Green Party Candidates are: Will Duckworth, Aldo Mussi, Vicky Duckworth, Tom Harris, Karl Macnaughton, Duncan Kerr and Laura Vesty.

British National Party candidates are: Michael Coleman, Jennifer Matthys, Kenneth Griffiths, Simon Patten, David Bradnock, Mark Badrick and Phillip Kimberley.

English Democrats candidates are: -Derek Hilling, Christopher Newey, Stephen Paxton, Charles Hayward, Margaret Stoll, David Lane and Fred Bishop.

We Demand A Refrendum Now Party candidates are: Nikki Sinclaire, Andy Adris, Linda Brown, David Bennett, Judy Smart, Thomas Reid and Amanda Wilson.

An Independence From Europe candidates are: Mike Nattrass, Mark Nattrass, Joshna Pattni, Carl Humphries, George Forrest, Douglas Ingram and Paul Alders. No to EU Yes to Democracy candidates are: Dave Nellist, Pat Collins, Joanne Stevenson, Sophia Hussain, Paul Relly, Andrew Chaffer andAmanda Marfleet.

The Harmony Party's candidate is: Reg Mahrra.
