A training centre in Leek hosted a successful apprentice day this month.

The search for 10 young people to take on apprenticeship roles was made at PM Training in Queen Street, Leek, which is part of The Aspire Group.

Ascent, the housing joint venture between Your Moorlands and Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, joined forces with PM training and Seddons Construction to launch the jobs fair in Leek, which took place during National Apprenticeship Week.

The event was open to anyone between the ages of 16 and 24 who is interested in working in the construction industry, either on –site or in the office.

One of Ascent's main commitments is to ensure local people are given the opportunity to access apprenticeships in their local area.

Current apprentice Brandon Curley, aged 18, was at the open day showcasing the skills he has learned in painting and decorating.

He said: "I am enjoying my apprenticeship at PM Training.

"I hope to get full time work in painting and decorating soon.

"I would encourage others to take on an apprenticeship."

PM Training Centre Manager Dean Collier said: "We had a good open day with more than 32 people putting their names down for the apprenticeships."
