CHECKLEY must have thought victory was in the bag against Hem Heath, with the visitors hanging on at 87-6 in pursuit of their hosts' 166 all out.

However, the visitors' lower order batsmen rode to the rescue to clinch an unlikely three-wicket triumph.

Zephryn Hunt (43no), Spencer Batt (36) and Fia Hussain (36) were the Hem Heath heroes.

Michael Allen had earlier top scored with 58 for Checkley.

He received valuable support from Amer Siddique (41) and Nick Hubble (37).

Tom East and Abdul Razzaq claimed 4-44 and 3-45 respectively.

Checkley's visit to Himley in the second round of the Staffordshire Cup is scheduled for Sunday, July 20.

Stafford conceded to Himley in the first round.
