Newsagents targeted

A QUANTITY of cigarettes and alcohol have been stolen following two raids at newsagents in the Staffordshire Moorlands.

Last Thursday, December 19, at approximately 12.45am a sledge hammer was used to smash a uPVC door at the premises of Sangar News in Werrington.

A quantity of cigarettes were taken.

On Friday morning, December 20, at approximately 12.40am Wallbridge Drive Newsagents in Leek was broken into.

Thieves smashed a pane of glass in the front door to gain entry.

A quantity of cigarettes and alcohol were stolen.

A short time later an attempted burglary was made at a shop in Broad Street, Leek.

A glass window was smashed, but nothing was taken.

A police spokesman said: "As a result of the raids officers in the city have arrested four people.

"All have been bailed until February as enquiries are ongoing into a series of 11 incidents."
