PEOPLE are being reminded that there is NHS support available for them in their local community if they are suffering from a minor illness or injury over the New Year.
GP surgeries, and community pharmacies are open as normal today (New Year’s Eve), while there are community pharmacies open tomorrow – see attachment.
People who need the GP out-of-hours service just call their normal surgery number. There are also a number of minor injuries units and walk-in centres where treatment for minor injuries is normally quicker than at A&E. They are open on New Year’s Day.
Dr Steve Fawcett, from Stoke-on-Trent Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said: “New Year always has the potential to be a very busy period for local NHS services with the sheer volume of people who are out to celebrate. I would really urge people to use these services appropriately.
“Hospitals are very busy seeing and treating patients who are seriously ill or injured and would urge people to consider all other options available.”
Details of health services and help available for various ailments can be found online at NHS Choices www.nhs.uk (service near you).
